5th Stour Valley Business Fair - it’s here

Tuesday 24th April 4pm till 8pm

Free entry, all welcome

Stepping into a sci-fi future at
the Stour Valley Business Fair

STOUR Valley businesses are on top – and want everybody to know about it.

Fire-eating stilt walker Clair Collins will be striding round the streets of Shipston on Tuesday (April 24) afternoon to announce that the 5th Stour Valley Business Fair will be opening its doors to everybody from 4pm.

And in an exciting technological first, local MP Nadhim Zahawi will be linking up live from Westminster at 5pm, not just to support the fair but also to make a major announcement about funding for businesses in the area.

Mr Zahawi our local MP and member of the Business Innovation and Skills select committee will be in London on Parliamentary business on Tuesday so will not be able to attend the event, but has helped organise the live link – to be projected on to a big screen at Shipston’s Townsend Hall – as he is keen to support businesses in the constituency.

The futuristic theme continues with Coventry University Enterprises and the Serious Games Institute, which aims to develop computer-game technology for use in the real world. The Institute, part of Coventry University, has already worked with five local companies to help build “virtual world” showcases for their products.

They will be showing how science fiction moves into the real world – and what the future holds for forward-thinking local businesses.

‘There be dragons at this event – so I’m looking forward to a fiery snack!’ Clair said. The Cotswold Dragons, a group of highly experienced senior businessmen living locally who help Stour Valley companies with free mentoring, advice and tutoring, will be staging a live business-counselling event during the afternoon.

For those with more conventional tastes, the fair will once again feature the best and freshest of local produce with a food hall supplying drinks and local food.

Nearly 40 stalls at the event, which has free entry, will show the diversity of businesses operating successfully in the area, from marketing and IT services through to alternative-energy installers.

Last word goes to Clair (29), who by day works as a Commercial Insurance Broker for Insurance Choice in Leamington Spa. Clair performs her fire-eating and stilt-walking acts on a part-time basis and hopes people will follow her to the opening, at 4pm in the Townsend Hall, Shipston.

‘It’s amazing to see the variety of businesses – good businesses – in the Stour Valley,’ she said. ‘And from where I’m standing their long-term future looks very bright!’
